My name is Melissa and I’m so glad you stopped by!
About 15 years ago, I was taking a Film Photography class in high school. We were assigned old film cameras, and it was a step up from my mom’s “point-and-shoot." Creating artwork in a dark room was exciting!
1 year later, I went to University for a more economical degree in Music Education (Flutist and musician at heart). It was then that I realized I would rather practice art than teach it.
My anxiety began to build as I realized teaching music wasn’t my passion, and playing music wasn’t going to pay the bills. As a last-ditch attempt to make some quick cash, I turned back to photography.
I didn’t know, then, how difficult it would be. The road to owning and running my own business wasn’t something I was prepared for. In 2013, some friends requested me to photograph their wedding. I had never done it before, and frankly, I was scared as heck!
But they believed in me.
Then came their wedding day. It was a beautiful autumn day in Salisbury, NC. I was with the couple every single step of the way and it was then that I fell in love with weddings. The electricity that permeated the atmosphere was intoxicating. The scenery of florals and sheers left my creative senses in awe. But the best part of that day was having the opportunity to make my friends’ wedding day the best ever.
Since that day, I have made it my goal to make every couple my number one priority on their special day.
Everyone deserves to have a ‘best day of their life’, and I want to be there to make it happen.
Melissa Cattani Photography came about from fulfilling a small need and turned into a work of passion. I am here to offer you exceptional services, stylistic, emotional, and genuine photographs, and a helping hand to make your wedding day one for the books.
When I’m not photographing weddings, one place you can probably find me at is church; cleaning, singing, giving Bible studies, or just having fellowship with the body of Christ. Above all else, God is my Rock and Foundation. He is the source of my success and joy, and the reason I am who I am today.
My husband and I love to stay active, playing racquetball together, going for bike rides or hikes, or just working out at the gym. Our wedding was April 23, 2019, and we’re still learning how to navigate married life. In August 2020, we moved to Orlando, Florida to be closer to family and my sister's newborn twins!
My favorite dessert is Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I know some people say that it’s like eating toothpaste, but I beg to differ! It is the best thing since sliced bread (and I’m not talking about that low-carb, keto kind). You’ll also find me countlessly re-watching all Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future movies, as well as The Princess Bride. You can definitely expect some quotes from that last one to pop up when we talk. There’s just something about the end of a story being the beginning of another story, even greater than the first.
And so they lived happily ever after. A beautiful beginning.
